How we make Dovetail Drawers
At Dovetail we make our drawers from solid Oak with a hard wearing, clear non-yellowing lacquer.
Drawer bottoms are made from oak veneer for added stability and long-term performance.
We blend traditional techniques to make our drawers with concealed ultra smooth runners which are designed and manufactured in Germany by Blum.
The dovetail joints are made on a dovetail machine with a CNC system for precision to ensure exceptional strength and a beautifully crafted finish.
Dovetail joints date back thousands of years and have been found in furniture from ancient Egypt’s First Dynasty, as well as in archaeological discoveries from ancient China and Rome — proof that good craftsmanship stands the test of time.
The glue we use at Dovetail is ‘Titebond’. It has a faster ‘grab’ time, is stronger, more rigid and heat resistant than pva or basic white glues. We could go into molecular bonding variations between the glue types, but the deeper we go the more stuck we become, so let’s leave it there!
Some of the drawers require cutlery partitions, which are individually made to suit our clients utensils and storage requirements. These dividers are crafted to match the drawer material, and in some cases we fit matting, baize or cork linings to the drawer interiors for an added touch of practicality and luxury.
The way a drawer opens matters — it’s the finishing detail of your kitchen. Whether you prefer discreet integrated handles or something that makes more of a statement, we offer a wide range of opening options to suit your design.
